I worked on a unique bag design project that highlights the traditional crafts of Tottori Prefecture. The bag features Yumihama-gasuri, a hand- and foot-operated weaving technique, as well as katazome, a meticulous stencil-dyeing process.
In Yumihama-gasuri, threads are pre-dyed using a special method, then woven in subtle shifts to create intricate patterns. This labor-intensive technique allows for beautifully complex designs. Katazome, on the other hand, involves delicate stencils made from persimmon-tannin–treated paper, resulting in unique, refined expressions of dye.
The bag also incorporates charms made from Ushinoto kiln ceramics, cords crafted from game-sourced deer leather, and canvas produced in Okayama. By fusing these traditional techniques with contemporary design, we created a luxurious tote bag that celebrates the beauty of Tottori’s craftsmanship.
鳥取県の伝統工藝品を活用した、独特なバッグのデザインプロジェクトを手掛けました。このバッグは、手と足を使って織り上げられる弓浜絣と、細やかな技術で染め上げられる型染めを特徴とします。弓浜絣では、特殊な方法で事前に染色された糸が織り込まれ、複雑な模様を生み出します。この技術は、各糸を微妙にずらして織り上げることで、美しい模様を実現します。一方、型染めは、柿渋で処理された紙を用いた繊細な工程を経て、独自の染め上がりを見せます。バッグのチャームには、牛ノ戸窯の作品を使用し、紐にはジビエ由来の鹿皮、そして帆布には岡山産の素材を採用しています。伝統と現代の融合により、鳥取の工藝品を取り入れた豪華なトートバッグを創り出しました。
