YOKO MATSUSHITA
I grew up in the Japanese countryside, in a healthy and creative environment shaped by my father—an exceptionally skillful outdoorsman—and my mother, a professional in dressmaking. Surrounded by fresh rice and vegetables in our daily meals, life in nature refined my sensitivity and nurtured my dream of becoming a designer from an early age. Experiences such as rice harvesting, mountain stream fishing, sewing, and fashion constantly inspired me with new perspectives.
With an early interest in English, I studied in an English department high school before attending a design college to learn the fundamentals of design. After gaining experience at an advertising agency, I joined a textile design company where I also developed skills in graphic design alongside textile work. These experiences became the foundation for my independent career as a freelance designer.
Through design, I aim to create work that contributes to the happiness of people, animals, and the planet. I place strong emphasis on eco-friendly materials and ethical production processes, striving to deliver designs that bring meaningful value to the world.
I am also a passionate surfer, having surfed in Hawaii, Australia, Indonesia, the Maldives, and Japan—with my next surf trip planned for Ireland!
In 2024, I founded “Plogging Rabbits,” a sustainable activity team at Tottori Sand Dunes National Park, combining community action with environmental care.

田舎で育ち、新鮮なお米と野菜を日々の食事に取り入れながら、人並み外れた器用さを持つアウトドア好きな父と洋裁のプロである母の下で、健康的かつクリエーティブな環境で成長しました。自然豊かな環境での生活は、私の感性を磨き、幼い頃からのデザイナーとしての夢を育んでくれました。稲刈り、渓流釣り、ミシン、ファッションといった多岐にわたる活動に触れながら、常に新しい刺激を受けてきました。
英語に興味を持ち、英文科の高校で学んだ後、デザイン専門学校でデザインの基本を学びました。その後、広告代理店での経験を経てテキスタイルデザイン会社に入社し、テキスタイルデザイン業務のかたわらグラフィックデザインのスキルも習得しました。この経験を活かし、フリーランスとして独立し、現在に至ります。
デザインを通じて人々、動物、そして地球全体の幸せを考える仕事を目指し、環境に優しい素材選びや倫理的な生産プロセスを重視したデザインを創出しています。私の作品が、世界に新たな価値をもたらすことを願っています。
ハワイ、オーストラリア、インドネシア、モルディブ、日本などでサーフィンするサーファーであり、次のサーフトリップはアイルランド！
2024年鳥取砂丘国立公園の海岸で立ち上げたプロギングチーム”Plogging rabbits”の代表もしています。
