My product design “Shoes from the Land of the Gods”, created with UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Sekishu Washi, has been selected as one of the 50 works showcased at EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai in the exhibition “Banquet! The World of Japanese Beauty Performed by Artisans – powered by MUFG Craft Project.”
Sekishu washi, hand-crafted in the mountain valleys of Shimane, is made of water, light, and the memory of the earth.
From this paper, I created a single pair of shoes.
They are not merely for walking, but a form for living together with nature.
Humans, plants, and the earth itself—all breathe in unison.
I feel that Sekishu washi carries within it the cycle of life.
Gentle, fleeting, and yet resilient.

石州の山あいで漉かれた和紙は、水と光と、土の記憶でできています。
私はその紙で、ひとつの“くつ”をつくりました。
それは、ただ歩くためのものではなく、自然とともに生きるためのかたちです。
人も、植物も、大地も、同じ呼吸をしながら生きている。
石州和紙には、その命のめぐりが宿っていると感じます。
やさしくて、儚くて、でも確かにしなやか。
この“紙のくつ”が踏み出す一歩は、未来へとつづくオーガニックな祈りなのかもしれません。
